DIGITAL INTERFACE DESIGN
WEEK 7

1) What is the interface design principles?

Design should organize the user interface purposefully, in meaningful and useful ways based on clear , consistent models that are apparent and recognizable to users. Interfaces exist to enable interaction between humans and our world. They can help clarify, illuminate, enable, show relationships, bring us together, pull us apart, manage our expectations, and give us access to services. As in most design disciplines, interface design is successful when people are using what you've designed. Like a beautiful chair that is uncomfortable to sit in, design has failed when people choose not to use it. Therefore, interface design can be as much about creating an environment for use as it is creating an artifact worth using. It is not enough for an interface to satisfy the ego of its designer: it must be used!

2) What is the elements of the interface design?

Graphical user interface elements are those elements used by graphical user interfaces (GUIs) to offer a consistent visual language to represent information stored in computers. These make it easier for people with few computer skills to work with and use computer software. There are Structural Elements and Interaction Elements. Interface elements include but are not limited to: Input Controls, Navigational Components, Informational Components, Containers.

Class Exercise:Review on the existing website on Mc.Donald. List out the pro & cons of the interface design layout, the navigation buttons and is the information clear enough for the user to understand to navigation the page?

Existing WEBPAGE NOW

Based on my review on the existing website on McDonald, red colour full fill the website. Since it is an extreme color, red always the popular targets for audiences. Red colours always get noticed.

Overall PROS:

1. Didn't have fancy words. It's TIDY.

We don't like all of the fonts that won't work for us in order to find the ones that will. It's tidy and all function able.

For example:

If fonts aren’t hinted well, their strokes can change significantly from browser to browser. This font looked great on my Mac (top). When I tested it cross-browser, I ran into problems (bottom). The font is too light to read easily.

Overall CONS:

1. It's seem the interface quite complicated to use. For example, all the pop up menu quite big and many functions. It make me confusing.

DIGITAL INTERFACE DESIGN
WEEK 1

Week 1: Introduction about Digital Interface Design

1.What is Interface Design?

Interface design deals with the process of developing a method for two (or more) modules in a system to connect and communicate. These modules can apply to hardware, software or the interface between a user and a machine. An example of a user interface could include a GUI, a control panel for a nuclear power plant, or even the cockpit of an aircraft. It is the design of user interfaces for machines and software, such as computers, home appliances, mobile devices, and other electronic devices, with the focus on maximizing the user experience. Interface design is involved in a wide range of projects from computer systems, to cars, to commercial planes; all of these projects involve much of the same basic human interactions yet also require some unique skills and knowledge. As a result, designers tend to specialize in certain types of projects and have skills centered on their expertise, whether that be software design, user research, web design, or industrial design.

2.What is Navigation Button?

A set of buttons or graphic images typically in a row or column used as a central point to link the user to major topic sections on a Web site. The navigation bar may be a single graphic image with multiple selections. These help you find your way around, or "navigate" through the site to find what you want.

3.What is Mobile Apps? Why we need it?

A mobile app is a computer program designed to run on smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. Mobile applications frequently serve to provide users with similar services to those accessed on PCs. Apps are generally small, individual software units with limited function. This use of software has been popularized by Apple Inc. and its App Store, which sells thousands of applications for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. A mobile app may be a mobileWeb site bookmarking utility, a mobile-based instant messaging client, Gmail for mobile, and many other applications. WHY we need it? Apps give your business visibility that extends beyond the Internet and literally into your customers' pockets and purses. Apps from MobileAppLoader are the most feature-rich – and affordable – mobile Apps on the market today. They include Push Notifications, QR Code Scanners, inventory search, appointment requests, FREE one-on-one chat, one-touch calling, directions to your business, and more.
